Weekend Box Office Report: ‘Man of Steel’ Wins the Day

Man of Steel

As expected, fans of the red-caped hero across the nation guaranteed that Man of Steel earned a top spot in the the box office charts over the weekend—that being said, its profits reached unprecedented astronomical heights that the man of steel himself would be proud of.

Christopher Nolan’s second foray into the DC world, Man of Steel, earned over $113 million on its opening weekend—the second-highest opening-weekend gross, after Iron Man 3, which earned $175.3 million on its opening weekend. It’s safe t say that, despite the film’s critics, Christopher Nolan ‘s still got it.

This week’s other release, This Is the End, pulled in the second-highest earnings, $20.5 million, for a total of $32.8 million (since it had come out earlier in the week). This is quite the sum for a comedy, especially on that came out alongside a film as hyped up as Man of Steel.

The third-highest earnings went to three-week holdover Now You See Me, which grossed $10.3 million over the weekend, and $80 million overall. The next-highest revenues were earned by Fast & Furious 6, which earned another $9.4 million for a colossal total of $219.5 million. Finally, last week’s number one release, The Purge, was knocked down to fifth-highest earnings—$8.2 million, for a total of $51.8 million.
