Weekend Box Office Report: ‘Lego’ Staying Strong

With the mediocre (at best) quality of our new releases, it’s little surprise that the lauded Lego Movie is sitting easily and comfortably at the top of the charts once more. Since there are no surprises, it’s a pretty short report this weekend, so let’s get to it.
The Lego Movie made itself another handsome pile of revenues this weekend, adding $34.1 million to its ever-growing total of $183.1 million. Between this and Frozen, animated films have been dominating the box office recently.
It was chased by our two new releases, who couldn’t quite make it to the top; 3 Days to Kill came out on top, earning $12.3 million, while Pompeii made $10 million. They’re not breaking any records, but at least they’re fulfilling the modest projected ranges on their opening weekend revenues.
For our honorable mentions, we have last week’s Robocop, which earned itself another $9.4 million for a total of $43.6 million, and it was again followed by The Monuments Men, which earned $8.1 million this weekend for a total of $58 million overall.
