Weekend Box Office Report: ‘X-Men’ Conquers the Charts

It’s not uncommon for a particularly successful film to earn above and beyond its predicted earnings; it is rare, however, for a film to earn a full $30 million higher than it was predicted to. This weekend saw such a phenomenon, as moviegoers stormed the box office to see X-Men: Days of Future Past.
The film earned all of $90.7 million over the weekend—for you number-savvy folks, that’s 150% of its projected gross. These days, Marvel just cannot be stopped.
Next came last week’s Godzilla, which suffered a severe drop in weekend revenues from last week at $31.4 million; still, with a total gross of $148.7 million after its second weekend, it’s hard to complain. It was followed this time by the less-prolific release this weekend, Blended, which made itself a modest $14.2 million (while it’s certainly not the $26 million it was predicted to make, any earnings at all are an accomplishment with both Godzilla and X-Men vying for viewers).
From there, the charts proceeded as they did last week—Neighbors came next with weekend revenues of $13.9 million and an impressive total of $113.6 million, and it was again followed by The Amazing Spiderman 2, which made another $7.8 million for a total of $184.9 million.
