WB Moves 'Jupiter Ascending' Back to February

Jupiter Ascending

Things are not looking good for the Wachowskis' Jupiter Ascending. Warner Bros. has decided to push the release date back from July 18 to February 6, 2015.

The reason given is that the movie needs more time to complete the visual effects, but this is something that should have been known months ago. To be moved nearly a month before release into a slot where studios use to cast their leftovers suggests more may be at play -- like the movie not testing well.

There are movies that have open in the February slot and went on to do very well, like The Lego Movie, but for a movie with the budget of Jupiter Ascending, said to be around $150 million, it will need a lot of help from the oversea markets.

February 6 was previously occupied by Jaume Collet-Serra's Run All Night, but Warner has decided to slot in Jupiter Ascending and release the Liam Neeson-starrer at a date to be determined later.

For now, it seems like the much publicized return of the Wachowskis is off to a inauspicious start.

Described as Snow White in space, Jupiter Ascending is directed by Andy and Lana Wachowski and stars Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth, Tuppence Middleton, Doona Bae, James D'Arcy and Tim Pigott-Smith.
