The Wachowskis' 'Jupiter Ascending' Adds Sean Bean

Sean Bean

Sean Bean is joining Channing Tatum and Mia Kunis in Lana and Andy Wachowski's sci-fi movie Jupiter Ascending, according to Deadline. He will play a Han Solo-type character in the movie.

Lana and Andy Wachowski haven't directed a movie by themselves since 2008's Speed Racer. That movie bombed hard at the box office, making on $94 million globally while costing $120 million to make. They've been licking their wounds since then.

They recently teamed up with Tom Tykwer for the sci-fi flick Cloud Atlas, which is their warm up for Jupiter Ascending. As an aside, Cloud Atlas isn't exactly burning up the box office either and probably won't make back its production budget during its run on the big screen.

According to someone Vulture spoke with, Jupiter Ascending is sort of like Snow White in space. Kunis plays a cleaning lady who has the same genetic makeup as that of the Queen of the Universe, who understandably wants to eliminate this upstart. Tatum plays the hunter character who protects Kunis from the Queen's assassins.

Jupiter Ascending is reportedly the first movie in a planned trilogy.

Eddie Redmayne is reportedly in talks for an unspecified role, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt may be in the movie as well.
