Van Damme Wants Role in Expendables 4 and to Work with Tony Jaa

Jean Claude Van Damme in "The Expendables 2"

Jean Claude Van Damme wrote The Expendables fansite ExpendablesPremiere.com to, pretty much, beg Sylvester Stallone to write him back into the franchise with The Expendables 4.

Because Van Damme’s character in The Expendables 2 Jean Vilain met his end in the climactic battle with Stallone, the iconic martial arts star wants to return as Vilain’s twin brother Claude (get it, “Jean Claude”). He’s leaving it up to Stallone on whether Claude would be a good guy or a heavy.

As noted by CityOnFire.com, Van Damme is no stranger to playing twins. He’s done it in three previous films already: Double Impact, Replicant, and Maximum Risk (all of which I’ve seen).

I’m definitely on board if Van Damme returns for another outing in the ensemble actioner. If he does, maybe Stallone can right a wrong from the second film and have him fight Jet Li this time. At least that’s what John Woo said he would have done if he was the director. I’m sure every fan was hoping for that too.

Despite that, The Expendables 2 was an improvement over the first, both critically and commercially. On Rotten Tomatoes, the second film scored a Fresh 65%, 24% better than the first. Worldwide, the second one grossed $305M, $31M more than the first. That's why we're getting The Expendables 3, which wrapped production late last year.

While we’re talking Van Damme news, he was in Thailand recently and was hanging out with Tony Jaa. They made a video together trying to communicate, in broken English, that they’re fans of each other and want to work together someday. Now that Jaa’s no longer tied to his contract with Sahamongkol, the film studio behind the Ong Bak films, it’s possible.

Maybe Stallone can make both of these requests happen by casting Van Damme and Jaa in The Expendables 4.
