The movie is the prequel to The Wizard of Oz, and it tells the story of how the title character, played by James Franco, became the great wizard.

Directed by Sam Raimi and starring James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams and Zach Braff, Oz: The Great and Powerful will be released in theaters on March 8th, 2013.

Here's the official synopsis:

"When small-time magician Oscar Diggs (James Franco) pulls one flimflam too many, he finds himself hurled into the fantastical Land of Oz where he must somehow transform himself into the great and powerful Wizard -- and just maybe into a better man as well."
