Top Gun 2 is back on at Paramount. Justin Marks, the one responsible for Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li and Disney's forthcoming adaptation of The Jungle Book, is in talks to rewrite Peter Craig's script, according to THR.

No director is attached, but Tom Cruise will return to play the hot shot fighter pilot Maverick. No word if Val Kilmer will make an appearance as Iceman.

In the 1986 original, Maverick and his fellow pilots were going against their human counterparts, but in the follow-up, they'll have to compete with high-tech drones for air superiority.

Top Gun 2 was supposed to go into production early 2013 for a 2014 release, but the suicide of director Tony Scott threw a wrench into that plan. Don't be surprised if the movie begins shooting sometime next year.

Jerry Bruckheimer and Skydance's David Ellison are producing.
