It's one of those projects that's been loping along the development path for so long that we've always sort of assumed it wasn't ever really going to happen, but that Tomb Raider reboot just took another step toward the big screen.

According to Variety, Buffy the Vampire Slayer vet Marti Noxon has been hired to handle the screenwriting duties for Lara Croft's next cinematic adventure -- and although it's easy to be cynical about the whole project, given that it's a reboot coming from MGM, the studio that never met a reboot it didn't love, Noxon is probably one of the best choices for the gig.

As Collider notes, not only does Noxon have an admirably eclectic background (she's had a hand in everything from Buffy to Mad Men), it's also extremely heartening to see a woman heading up the creative team behind an action flick -- let alone one that centers on a woman.

Noxon's had some tough breaks in the film industry of late, penning duds like I Am Number Four and Fright Night, so she's definitely due for a hit -- and with a Pixar project also in the pipeline, we could be seeing a lot of her work in the upper reaches of the box office in the not-too-distant future.
