Sylvester Stallone Wants "Young Bloods" for 'Expendables 3'

Expendables

Never one to abandon a franchise until he's slurped every molecule from its marrow, Sylvester Stallone is enthusiastically preparing for the inevitable Expendables 3 -- and because social media is the poorly spelled gift that keeps on giving when it comes to celebrity pronouncements, we have a few new tidbits about the next sequel, courtesy of Sly himself.

Telling Twitter followers that he's "Writing EX3 at the moment," Stallone promised "mountains of surprises" before going on to identify what the franchise needs: "NEW blood and more humor."

Explained Stallone, "The films were always meant to be more on the humorous side with moments of drama," which he apparently intends to conjure by means of a cast that will include "young bloods." How young, you ask? "By young I mean 22 to 27," Stallone added, dashing hopes for an Expendables/Spy Kids mashup. "Not big bruisers but tech wizard, super brains and a young woman who is not a sex symbol but funny, tough, REAL."

All that sounds encouraging, but sadly, Stallone had to dash a few hopes -- specifically, those of anyone who was hoping to see Steven Seagal whooping butt alongside Stallone and the other Expendables. "No S. Seagal, sorry," he announced without further explanation, leaving us to come up with our own (mostly ponytail-related) reasons for Seagal's absence. But all is not lost, because Sly's still in pursuit of another new addition: "Maybe we get lucky with J. Chan!"

Maybe we get lucky indeed. Stay tuned for more Expendables 3 tweets from Mr. Stallone.
