Stephenie Meyer Hints at More 'Twilight'

Stephenie Meyer

Good news, Twihards: Stephenie Meyer may yet be persuaded to continue her wildly successful Twilight saga.

With the film franchise set to conclude in two weeks, the cast and crew are out doing press to promote The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 -- and that includes Meyer, who popped up at an L.A. press conference to answer the billion-dollar question of whether she has any plans to write more Twibooks.

"I even planned out where it would go for a couple more books," Meyer allowed, "so I know exactly what would happen, I mean there are a lot of characters I think would have a voice in those other stories."

Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean Meyer is sold on an extension to the series. After getting fans' hopes up, she backpedaled a bit, adding, "I don’t know, maybe I’ll write it out someday for myself."

As the series creator, Meyer doubtless feels a sense of responsibility for her characters that not even a few hundred million dollars can erase, and any reluctance to cash in with spinoffs and/or further sequels is as easy to understand as it is laudable. But like any film studio, Summit Entertainment is loathe to give up a profitable franchise -- something producer Wyck Godfrey alluded to when he joked that they're sending Meyer copies of the press releases announcing George Lucas' sale of the Star Wars rights to Disney.

It's all fun and games now, but if Breaking Dawn - Part 2's grosses are as healthy as everyone expects, Meyer can expect to start getting a lot of phone calls from the studio -- not to mention her publisher -- and those offers might be too much to refuse.
