Star Wars

According to a Disney exec, Star Wars: Episode VII will be coming out near the tail end of 2015, which squares with Badass Digest's report a couple months ago about a December 2015 release.

"Saw today some awesome first features/plans of new Star Wars 7 movie coming end 2015," Dennis Barbie, Disney's director of retail in the Netherlands, wrote on Twitter (via THR).

That was followed by another tweet stating that "at this moment it is planned for end of CY15 but in the entertainment business you will never know. Might be some changes there." Oops!

Those tweets have since been deleted by Barbie, but he wrote a follow-up.

"OMG didn't think my post would be picked up like this. Was just guessing period I have no real info on StarWars #StarWars," Barbie wrote.

Barbie is no Jedi, so this poor attempt at a mind trick won't work on us. A December release, it is!

In related new, Saoirse Ronan has revealed that she won't be in Episode VII because she didn't get the role she'd auditioned for.

"I don't have Star Wars. I don't have the role," Ronan told The Playlist. "I just shouldn't have said anything. I just auditioned for it, like everyone else did."

I'll let you decide if the Force is strong in this one or not.

Update: Disney sent out a press release stating that Episode VII is dated for December 18, 2015. Read it below.

"We're very excited to share the official 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, where it will not only anchor the popular holiday filmgoing season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture," said Alan Horn, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios.

Star Wars: Episode VII will be directed by J. J. Abrams (Super 8, Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek)and is being scripted by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi). Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, with Tommy Harper (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Jack Ryan, Star Trek Into Darkness) and Jason McGatlin (Tintin, War of the Worlds) serving as executive producers.
