Feel like J.J. Abrams is being unreasonable by making you wait until May 17 to see Star Trek Into Darkness? Good news: You'll get to see it earlier than that! A little earlier, anyway -- and provided you live near a theater with one of those fancy-schmancy really big screens.
Those caveats come courtesy of IMAX, where the powers that be have set up an early IMAX 3D release for the Star Trek sequel on May 15, with screenings scheduled to kick off at 8 PM. And to add an extra space-age spin to the proceedings, Trekkies can purchase their passes ahead of time via the Star Trek app.
For the rest of the unwashed masses, Star Trek Into Darkness is still set to touch down at its regularly appointed date. But hey, if you don't live anywhere near an IMAX screen, at least you've been given enough warning to make travel plans or sell your house and move between now and May. And in the meantime, you can look forward to "continuously" receiving "exciting Star Trek Into Darkness movie news, as well as exclusive content and offers" after installing the app. Live long and buy stuff!
