'Spy Hunter' Teases Us With New Writer

Spy Hunter, the movie adaptation of Midway's 1983 arcade game, has a new writer, Deadline has learned. The movie will now be written by Carter Blanchard, the screenwriter for DreamWorks' forthcoming time traveling flick Glimmer. Ruben Fleischer is still attached to direct.
And yes, we have seen this movie before. Spy Hunter has past through a number of hands, particularly those of writers, since Warner Bros. acquired the movie rights back in 2003.
Dwayne Johnson was originally attached to star with John Woo directing, but due to scheduling conflicts, Woo left the project. Johnson left as well after a period of inactivity.
Paul W. S. Anderson was brought on to co-write and direct the movie, but he left for Death Race 2000. By then, the script has went though as least 8 different writers.
Ruben Fleischer came onboard last year to direct, how long before he, too, departs for greener pastures?
Like the game it's based on, getting to the next stage in the movie adaptation is proving to be very difficult, but maybe it'll really happen this time. As long as Warner Bros. is willing to keep on plugging in those quarters, the studio still has a chance to cross the finish line on this one.
