Spike Lee Unveils 'Oldboy' Remake with New Trailer

Oldboy

If you're going to go to the trouble of remaking someone else's movie, you can either slavishly recreate or try to stamp your own vision on the original. Now that Spike Lee has released the first trailer for his upcoming version of the Korean revenge classic Oldboy, we're getting a feel for which approach he decided to take.

Surprisingly, it seems like Lee opted for the former rather than the latter -- although he's one of the more visually distinctive directors currently working, his Oldboy looks a lot like the old one, right down to the cinematography and overall feel (not to mention a number of obvious visual nods to the original). Which isn't to say you shouldn't look forward to seeing Lee's take -- if for no other reason than getting a glimpse of what an angry Josh Brolin can do with a hammer -- just that it's a little surprising.

If you've ever seen the original, you know what goes on here is definitely not safe for work, so make sure you're someplace blood- and nudity-friendly before taking a gander. Oldboy is scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 25.
