"Sparkle" Most-Liked Upcoming Release on Facebook

We just launched another Facebook chart: one for just upcoming movies. Now you can track which future release is most liked on Facebook. It’s located in the “Popcorn Index” submenu.

In terms of the number “likes” added per day, “Sparkle,” Whitney Houston’s last film, topped today’s chart with 22,481 likes, besting “The Expendables 2” by nearly 17,000. Both films are opening this Friday, August 17th.

This is pretty impressive, considering “The Expendables 2” stars some of the biggest action icons of the past and present.

Whether or not these Facebook fans can propel “Sparkle” to the top of the box office this weekend is uncertain, but they can push the film to a decent opening.

"Sparkle" stars the late Whitney Houston, "American Idol" Jordin Sparks, Cee-Lo Green, Derek Luke, and Mike Epps. “Sparkle” is about a musical group, composed of three sisters, that struggles to achieve success.

As of this writing, the film doesn't have a Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes. It's usually not a good sign when a studio holds back reviews.
