The 2016 Golden Globes Awards
(This is a live-blog, with edits after the show.) Here we go again. Personally, I like Ricky Gervais's previous work on the Golden Globes, so I'm glad he's back. Because of him, I'm actually looking forward to the show. It should be fun.

I'm Back?

Terminator Genisys
Here’s what I wrote on my other site Wopular.com: “For the past three years (especially 2015), I’ve been neglecting my two websites: Wopular.com and MoviesWithButter.com. During that peroid, I worked in spurts: there were months when I was very active and others when I just disappeared. I’ll get into the why in the future.

Thursday Evening Box Office: "The Transporter Refueled" Moves Modest $365K

The Transporter Refueled
Last night, “The Transporter Refueled” received a modest $365K from action fans, according to Variety. Whenever these evening screening figures are less than a million, it’s nothing to write home about. The trade publication uses another Luc Besson production, “3 Days to Kill,” as a comparison. The Kevin Costner vehicle pulled in $325K in evening screenings and ended up with a weekend sum of $12M, a respectable opening for Costner nowadays.

"The Transporter Refueled" Still Running Low on Rotten Tomatoes

Ed Skrein in "The Transporter Refueled"
Critics, who were divided on “The Transporter” franchise, are united on their reviews of the reboot. The gauge on Rotten Tomatoes for “The Transporter Refueled” is at a near-empty 16%. The consensus on the reviews site reads, “The Transporter Refueled has little to offer beyond a handful of decent action sequences, leaving this reboot's title feeling more like wishful thinking than a restatement of purpose.”

"The Transporter Refueled" Review: Ed Skrein is solid; so is the film (until the silly climax)

The Transporter Refueled
I wasn’t expecting much from “The Transporter Refueled.” What’s a “Transporter” movie without Jason Statham? Not much, I thought. I was biased because I like Statham in those films. Although after three of them, I wasn’t asking for another one, but still, if he cranks out more of them, I wouldn’t mind watching. Apparently, “The Transporter Refueled” is a reboot.

Weekend Box Office: "Straight Outta Compton" Remains #1 with $13.2M, Ups Total to $134M

Straight Outta Compton
Not even the big G.O.D. can stop N.W.A., “Straight Outta Compton” remains #1 at the domestic box office for the third weekend in a row with $13.2M, upping its total to $134M. It got unexpected competition from Christian film “War Room,” which actually beat it on Friday, $3.9M to $3.8M. However, opening films tend to be more front-loaded, so the Universal music biopic was able to make up ground on Saturday.

Why No Mention of Thailand or Its Language in Owen Wilson/Pierce Brosnan Thriller "No Escape"

Owen Wilson in "No Escape"
When I was writing my review of the Owen Wilson/Pierce Brosnan action thriller “No Escape,” I was surprised -- and curious -- to find that there’s NOT a single mention of Thailand in the film’s official synopsis. It just uses “Southeast Asia” as the setting.

Friday Matinee Box Office: "We Are Your Friends" Bombs; "No Escape" OK; "War Room" Overperforms

War Room
This is not what I was expecting heading into the weekend. In terms of this week’s new releases, I was expecting the order at the box office to be “No Escape,” “We Are Your Friends,” and “War Room.” But based on matinee numbers, Christian drama “War Room” ends up on top.

Why Is Pixar Making "Cars 3" After The Poorly-Reviewed Second Film Disappointed at the Domestic Box Office?

Pixar's "Cars 3"
Since it's a boring weekend at the box office, I'll write about Pixar's puzzling decision to manufacture another "Cars" movie, despite objections from critics.

Daily Box Office: "No Escape" Opens to $1.2M on Wednesday

Owen Wilson in "No Escape"
I was predicting Owen Wilson’s action thriller “No Escape” to do $15M this weekend. Well, it looks like I’ll be wrong. According to Deadline.com, “No Escape” took in $1.2M yesterday, and that includes $300K from Tuesday evening screenings.
