Roberto Orci Reportedly Got the 'Star Trek 3' Directing Gig

Star Trek

Roberto Orci, one of the writing duo behind blockbusters such as Transformers and the previous two Star Trek movies, will reportedly make his directorial debut with Star Trek 3.

Variety's sources say Paramount has settled on Orci, and they are in the process of working out a deal.

Orci, who is also writing the Star Trek 3 screenplay with J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, has been rumored as the frontrunner to direct for a couple week, but having J.J. Abrams' blessing apparently tipped the scale in Orci's favor.

While Abrams is busy with Star Wars: Episode VII, he will remain on board as a producer on the Star Trek franchise.

Orci recently broke off with his writing partner Alex Kurtzman so they could focus on their solo careers as directors. Nabbing Star Trek 3 is not a bad way to start. Not bad at all.
