Ridley Scott Circling Fox's 'The Martian'

Ridley Scott is in talks with Fox to board The Martian as a producer and director, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Matt Damon is attached to star.
Described as Cast Away in space, The Martian tells the story of an astronaut who is stranded on the red planet, trying to survive until help arrives. It is adapted from a novel by Andy Weir.
Drew Goddard wrote the screenplay and was attached to direct, but he was lured away by Sony for the studio's Spider-Man spin-off Sinister Six.
Scott is doing post on his biblical tale Exodus: Gods and Kings which stars Christian Bale as Moses and Joel Edgerton as Rhamses. The movie is schedule for release later this year on December 12.
No word on when The Martian is shooting, but Fox has already staked out March 4, 2016 to release one of Scott's movie, which is currently Prometheus 2, but the studio could slot in The Martian in that spot and move Prometheus 2 to a later date.
