Red Band 'About Time' Trailer Makes Time Travel Funny

About Time

The last time Rachel McAdams signed up for a time-travel movie, the result was the disastrous The Time Traveler's Wife, starring McAdams opposite Eric Bana in a well-meaning but ineptly executed adaptation of the bestselling romance about the doomed love that develops between a young girl and her unstuck-in-time beau. For that reason, we've been ignoring the impending release of About Time, which finds McAdams returning to the time-travel milieu -- but as its red band trailer makes clear, they're two very different films.

About Time stars Domhnall Gleeson as Tim Lake, a bumbling young man whose love for the beautiful-yet-insecure Mary (McAdams) is complicated by his willingness to tamper with a hereditary quirk that allows the men in his family to move through time -- specifically, an accident that erases their meeting, causing him to repeatedly try and "find" her again.

It sounds like the stuff of Notebook-style melodrama, but in this clip, it's really the basis for a lot of the stuff people tend to associate with writer-director Richard Curtis, like sparkly whimsy anchored with good old-fashioned laughs. Plus, you get Bill Nighy, which is never a bad thing.

About Time is due for a U.S. release on November 1. Check out the clip below.
