Paul Feig's Already Thinking About a Sequel to 'The Heat'

The Heat

As studio panic sets in and fast-pumped sequels become the rule in Hollywood, first-week grosses are more and more of a determining factor in whether or not we can expect to see a movie's characters return for further installments -- all of which is to say that yes, of course Paul Feig is thinking about where he'll send Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy in The Heat 2.

Reached by Yahoo! Movies about the possibility of a sequel, Feig said he already had screenwriter Katie Dippold "writing away on one," adding that "We had an idea that we thought was really fun."

Feig was understandably tight-lipped regarding details of his fun idea for more Heat, but he did make it clear that he's genuinely enthusiastic about the prospect of turning the distaff buddy-cop comedy into a franchise. "I just love these characters so much," he said. "I want to see them fighting more crime and having more fun."

If we have to have a sequel -- and given the climate in Hollywood right now, it seems like we probably do -- it's nice to at least be able to count on a director who actually loves his characters.
