Oscars 2013: 'Lincoln', 'Silver Linings Playbook', 'Beasts of the Southern Wild' Among Those With Multiple Noms


Sorry Hobbit fans, the nominees for the 2013 Academy Awards were announce earlier today and, well, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is not on the Best Picture short list. Instead, the following movies will be battling it out for the honor: Amour, Argo, Beast of Southern Wild, Django Unchained, Les Miserables, Life of Pi, Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, and Zero Dark Thirty.

Of the Best Picture contenders, Amour has 5 nominations; Argo has 7; Beasts of the Southern Wild has 4; Django Unchained has 5; Les Miserables has 8; Life of Pi has 11; Silver Linings Playbook has 8; Zero Dark Thirty has 5; and Lincoln leads the noms with 12.

Contending for Best Director are: Michael Haneke, Amour; Ang Lee, Life of Pi; David O. Russell, Silver Linings Playbook; Steven Spielberg, Lincoln; Benh Zeitlin, Beasts of the Southern Wild. Notice anyone missing from the list?

The Best Actor statuette will be fought over by: Bradley Cooper, Silver Linings Playbook; Daniel Day-Lewis, Lincoln; Hugh Jackman, Les Miserables; Joaquin Phoenix, The Master; Denzel Washington, Flight.

The ones contending for Best Actress are: Jessica Chastain, Zero Dark Thirty; Jennifer Lawrence, Silver Linings Playbook; Emmanuelle Riva, Amour; Quvenzhané Wallis, Beasts of the Southern Wild; Naomi Watts, The Impossible.

Winners will be announced live in an ABC telecast on February 24th 7 pm EST/4 pm PST.
