'Ninja Turtles' Found Its Raphael

Alan Ritchson

The Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot has nabbed its female lead in Megan Fox, and now, it has its first turtle. Alan Ritchson will play Raphael (the one with the red headband and uses the sai), Deadline has learned.

The former Abercrombie and Fitch model is best known for playing Thad Castle in the TV series Blue Mountain State. Ritchson can be seen next as the District 1 tribute Gloss in the upcoming Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire, which will be release later this year on November 22.

The choice of Ritchson is interesting because it suggests the movie is trying for the young female demo as well. Could there be a chance at some point in the movie where the Turtles will take on a human guise?

Fox is expected to play the role of April O'Neil, who, in her various incarnations, has been a TV reporter, a computer hacker, and a martial arts expert.

Unlike the previous live-action movies, this one will use motion capture technology for the Turtles.

Jonathan Liebesman is directing, and the movie is set for release on June 6, 2014.
