New in Theaters: 'Thor: The Dark World'

Thor: The Dark World

Today’s solitary major release continues the second string of individual Avengers films that started with Iron Man 3 this last summer that will be released prior to the next Avengers movie, The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Coming out today is Thor: The Dark World.

The film, which takes place after The Avengers, tells of a dark enemy older than the universe itself that emerges from the void of space to threaten Earth; enter Thor (Chris Hemsorth), who returns to Earth (and reunites with his earthly sort-of girlfriend, Dr. Jane Foster, again played by Natalie Portman) to save our world from a threat that Thor himself may not be able to defeat alone (which is probably why Tom Hiddleston is reprising his role as Loki in the film, alongside returning actors Idris Elba and Stellan Skarsgard.

Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 66%. The film is enjoyable enough thanks to the actors’ chemistry and a script that lets them have a little fun with the dialogue, but the action and plot are a little too generic to make the film a must-see. Still, the Box Office Guru predicts stellar revenues of $86 million over the weekend.
