New in Theaters: 'Dark Shadows'

Dark Shadows, Johnny Depp and Tim Burton's 8th collaboration together, is being released in the second weekend of the juggernaut that is The Avengers, a movie that when it is all said and done will end up as one of the top 5 box office earners of all time. Dark shadows, indeed.
The movie is based on a TV series of the same name that ran from the late 60s to the early 70s and is about a vampire named Barnabas Collins who, after being buried for more than a century, is freed to roam the Earth once again. When he made his way back home, he found it in disrepair and his descendants in need of his help. And then, he had to deal with the witch who placed the curse on him originally.
Yep, this movie is right up Tim Burton's alley.
Unfortunately for Burton, critics are not impressed with his latest effort. Dark Shadows currently has a Tomatometer of 42% at Rotten Tomatoes, making it the worst reviewed Burton/Depp movie of them all.
Despite that, Dark Shadows is projected to do well in its opening weekend. Showing in more that 3,700 theaters, the movie is projected to make somewhere in the $33-$35 million range this weekend. From Friday's midnight numbers though, it looks like the movie will hit the lower range of the projections.
