New in Theaters: ‘Warm Bodies,’ ‘Bullet to the Head’

The box office is in need of something refreshing to make up for last week’s onslaught of disappointing releases; while one of this week’s new films doesn’t look very promising, the other one could ameliorate the recent lack of decent new movies.
New this week is Warm Bodies , a bizarre, but endearing mix of the romance and zombie film genres. The film stars R, a zombie that is a bit different from the rest—he saves a human survivor from a zombie attack. This simple act sets off a chain of often-funny events that is set to change the entire zombie-ridden world.
Rotten Tomatoes gives the film a 77%; while it doesn’t necessarily take full advantage of the wacky premise and the directions it could take, critics maintain that the film is still fun and very much enjoyable. HSX puts its weekend profits between $18.7 million and $21 million.
There are only two new releases this week, which means that Bullet to the Head is the unloved stepchild of this week’s new films. Action star Stallone returns to act out the part of a hitman who teams up with a cop to carry out vengeance against the killers of their respective partners, with plenty of gratuitous action along the way.
It’s unsurprising, then, that the film received a lowly 48% on the Tomatometer; while certainly better than last week’s releases, it still smacks of your typical action movie, and holds little appeal for anyone immune to aging-action-star nostalgia. Its weekend gross is estimated to be $7-$8.1 million.
