New 'Oblivion' Trailer Promises Heavy Action and a Very Big Gun

If you watched the last Oblivion trailer and wondered if maybe you were watching Tom Cruise starring in a pumped-up live-action Wall-E remake, director Joseph Kosinski has something you might be interested in seeing: A freshly cut clip that emphasizes the movie's action thriller vibe.

As notes, Oblivion's screenplay was co-written by Kosinski with Michael Arndt, who's currently toiling over the upcoming Star Wars: Chapter VII script -- so if you want a taste of what Arndt can do in the sci-fi milieu, this is as good a time as any to find out.'s report goes on to note an interesting Kosinski quote from an interview with MTV, in which he bemoans the way "science fiction kind of went into the dark for a long time" after the success of Alien and adds:

"I liked the idea of bringing science fiction out into the daylight again. So it is a daytime science fiction film where the world is kind of divided into two zones: the world above the clouds and the world below the clouds. The world above the clouds is where Jack lives with Victoria, his partner, in this operation, in the skytower which is 3,500 feet above the ground, away from the dangers that live below, which is a very different world from the ground where Jack actually has to do his job every day. And that juxtaposition to me in concept lends itself into a visual juxtaposition as well, where you're gonna see technology set against a landscape that I feel is something we haven't really seen before."

We're always up for something we haven't really seen before. Look for glimpses of hitherto unseen objects in the new trailer, embedded below.
