New 'Jack the Giant Slayer' Trailer Emphasizes That Whole "Slayer" Thing

Jack the Giant Slayer

After a release delay, a title switch, and an underwhelming trailer, it seems more or less safe to assume that Bryan Singer's Jack the Giant Slayer is headed for a chilly critical reception when it reaches the box office on March 1. But if you're still on the fence about whether to head out and see a revisionist take on the legend of a simple farmboy (Nicholas Hoult) who unwittingly reawakens a war between humans and their giant-sized, sky-dwelling ancient antagonists, Warner Bros. has a new trailer they'd like you to see.

Unlike Slayer's previous clip, which emphasized the film's comedy quotient (at the expense of Ewan McGregor, playing a poorly coiffed, buffoonish knight), the new trailer plays up the movie's action side, highlighting the (admittedly rather awesome-looking) brawl that erupts, complete with magic beans as weapons and flaming trees being hurled hither and yon.

It's all definitely a little more exciting than what we've already seen, but we're still troubled by what's shaping up to be a fairly schizophrenic-looking film -- and we're still bracing ourselves for lukewarm-to-brutal reviews next month. What do you think? Has the new Jack the Giant Slayer trailer altered your perception of the movie at all?
