Marc Webb Tweets First 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' Set Photo

Amazing Spider-Man 2

The reviews may have been a shade less than spectacular, but Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man raked in more than enough box office cash to justify a sequel -- and now that the follow-up has started production, Webb is wasting no time offering glimpses of the set in action.

Admittedly, this is a completely superhero-free shot, but what Webb's snapshot lacks in costumes, it makes up in cinematography-based intrigue: As ScreenRant notes, the camera in the photo is of the old-school 35 mm variety, rather than the RED Epic 3D units used to film the first Amazing.

On one hand, this represents something of a small victory for film purists who resent the digital takeover -- but it also means it's pretty likely that Spidey's next outing will end up being post-converted into 3D, which opens up its own can of worms.

That being said, ScreenRant's report correctly points out that not all post-conversions are created equal -- and that if Webb can follow the same sort of process adopted by Guillermo del Toro on Pacific Rim, perhaps the Amazing Spider-Man sequel will represent something of a happy medium between old-fashioned filmmaking and 21st century blockbusterdom. With the movie scheduled to bow on May 2, 2014, we'll find out soon enough.
