Marc Webb Cleared for 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'

There were questions as to whether or not Marc Webb will return to direct The Amazing Spider-Man 2 because he is obligated to direct a movie for Fox as part of a deal with the studio a couple years ago. Today, all those questions have been answered.
Columbia Pictures President Doug Belgrad announced today that Webb will indeed return to direct the Amazing Spider-Man sequel for the studio, and Andrew Garfield is also on board to reprise his role as the webslinger as well.
According to the reports, the other major cast members, like Emma Stone, are not locked in yet, but they are expected to sign on shortly.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to shoot in early 2013 for a May 2, 2014 release.
The 2012 reboot of the franchise made over $751 million at the global box office, with the overseas box office nearly double of the domestic, and is the fourth highest grossing movie for 2012. It is also well-reviewed by the critics, earning a Tomatometer of 73% at Rotten Tomatoes.
I guess Fox is more than happy to let Webb perfect his craft at the expense of another studio before setting him on one of their own projects.
