Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo Reteam for New Comedy; Wiig to Star and Direct

Kristen Wiig

Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo are reteaming for an untitled comedy set up at TriStar, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. No, it's not the sequel to Bridesmaids, if you're wondering.

The pair will wear many hats. In addition to writing the script, Wiig and Mumolo will also produce and star, with Wiig planning to make her directorial debut with the movie.

According to the report, the plot will revolved around best friends who find themselves in over their heads.

"Kristen and Annie assured me that the film will be a searing and depressing drama, which is what the world needs right now," TriStar Productions' Tom Rothman said. "So we grabbed it. Perhaps more to the point, these two supremely talented ladies are always ahead of the comedy curve, and as we at TriStar push for originality, we are lucky as hell to be in business with them. The chance to hopefully make Kristen's first film as a director is the cherry on top."

After Bridesmaids became a runaway hit, Universal practically begged Wiig and Mumolo to do a sequel, but the pair didn't want to do the sequel for the sake of doing a sequel.
