Kelly Marcel to Pen 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Screenplay

Universal Pictures announced today that TV's Terra Nova and Saving Mr. Banks writer Kelly Marcel is adapting the screenplay for E.L. James' erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey for its specialty label Focus Features.
Fifty Shades of Grey is the first book in the Fifty Shades trilogy that explores the relationship between a college student named Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey, a young, rich, and brilliant entrepreneur named who happens to be into kinky sex.
The first book has sold over 32 millions copies in the U.S. alone and has been translated in 45 languages, so you know it's “hot.”
The other two book in the series are Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed.
I've heard the term “mommy porn” thrown around when this book is mentioned, so the stereotypical readers are middle-aged women, but I'm sure there are many readers who don't fall into this particular categorization.
This being an erotic movie, pretty much every young actress has been rumored to be in the running for the role of Anastasia. The same can be said for the young male actors vying for the Christian role as well.
Michael De Luca, Dana Brunetti and EL James are producing the movie for Universal.
As for why Marcel is chosen to write the screenplay, the producers have this to say:
“Kelly’s work demonstrates her flawless structural technique and passionate commitment to emotion, humor and depth of character which is particularly visible in the celebrated screenplay for the upcoming 'Saving Mr. Banks',” De Luca said.
“We were all taken with the depth and passion of Kelley's engagement with the characters and world E L James has created and we knew she was the right person to augment our 'Fifty' Shades family,” Brunetti added.
