Keira Knightley Joins Chris Pine in 'Jack Ryan'
Keira Knightley has beaten out Evangeline Lilly and Felicity Jones for the role of Jack Ryan's wife, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Once the deal close, she'll join Chris Pine and Kenneth Branagh, who will also direct the movie, in Paramount's reboot of Tom Clancy's character.
Titled Jack Ryan, the movie is not based on any of Clancy's novels, but is an original story created to tell how the title character, to be played by Chris Pine, came into the fold of the CIA. In other words, it's a prequel to all the movies that came before.
In the new movie, Ryan, a recently discharged ex-Marine, works as a consultant for Russian billionaire (Branagh), who is planning to plunge the United States into financial chaos through terrorist acts. During the course of his work, Ryan discovers his employer's nefarious plot and is framed for it.
David Koepp wrote the latest draft of the script.
Lost's Jack Bender was originally attached to direct the movie before constant delays caused him to exit. He was replaced by Branagh who cast himself in the role of the Russian billionaire and as the film's main villain.
