Joseph Gordon-Levitt Rumored for 'Guardians of the Galaxy'
Perhaps no actor found himself at the center of more hotly contested casting rumors in 2012 than Joseph Gordon-Levitt -- from the next wave of Batman movies to Warner Bros.' upcoming Justice League project, he seemed uniquely positioned to step into starring roles in pretty much any would-be blockbuster on the horizon.
Now, as it turns out, Gordon-Levitt's 2013 is getting off to a similar start: Deadline reports that JGL is on Marvel's shortlist of actors in line for the starring role in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy adaptation.
In case you're wondering what constitutes a "starring role" in a sci-fi superhero project about a team of do-gooders that includes a talking tree and a lasergun-sporting raccoon, let us clarify: Gordon-Levitt is reportedly in talks to star as Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord, a human/alien hybrid with an "ability-enhancing suit" and a "psychically-linked ship."
Does it all sound a little silly? Perhaps. Should this rumor be taken with a grain of salt? Certainly. But it's worth noting if no no other reason than that it highlights the extreme versatility (and, not for nothin', matinee-worthy good looks) that have made Gordon-Levitt one of Hollywood's most intriguing young stars. Plus, it'd have to be a satisfying coup for Marvel to scoop the guy posited as the next Batman from Warner Bros.
All told, we're not quite ready to believe this just yet, but we wouldn't dismiss it out of hand. And lest you think swashbuckling space epics are a little too silly for a guy of Gordon-Levitt's discerning taste, don't forget -- dude was in the first G.I. Joe movie.
