Jessica Chastain Rumored for 'Mission: Impossible 5'

Jessica Chastain

A rumor originating from Schmoes Know (via The Playlist) has it that Jessica Chastain is being sought to star opposite Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible 5 as Ethan Hunt's "right hand woman," and an offer has already been made.

Chastain was supposed to team up with Cruise in Oblivion, but she had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. With M:I 5, they will have another chance to work together, if the rumor is true, but Chastain is attached to play Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik's Blonde, which is shooting in August, so there may be some scheduling issues there.

Filming is planned for sometime this summer, with Christopher McQuarrie directing. Simon Pegg is expected to return as Benji Dunn.

"I never think like 'we're going to top [Ghost Protocol],' we're just going to try to make the film as entertaining as possible," Cruise said of M:I 5. "We've come up with a lot of fun things. I don't know. I think it's going to be a very entertaining movie, very thrilling."

Paramount will release the movie on December 25, 2015.
