Another 'Halloween' Sequel Is Still in Development

4:01 PM 8/20/2014 by Jeff Giles
Halloween
The Halloween 3D that was supposed to follow Rob Zombie's last Halloween sequel is as dead as one of Michael Myers' victims, but the franchise has weathered tough times before (e.g. most of the '80s), and if you've been operating under the assumption that we'd seen the last of the masked killer, it's time to change your way of thinking:

Johnny Depp Joins Daughter Lily-Rose in Kevin Smith's 'Yoga Hosers'

Yoga Hosers
It remains to be seen whether Kevin Smith's bizarre walrus horror-comedy Tusk is as fun as the trailer makes it seem, but whatever's going on in Smith's creative life right now, he certainly seems to be having a good time -- and he's already moving on Tusk's follow-up, the second chapter in what he's calling his True North trilogy (so named because, as the Hollywood Reporter points out, it's "steeped in Canadian myths and culture").

'The November Man' Will Get a Sequel

November Man
Thus far, the reviews for Pierce Brosnan's upcoming action thriller The November Man have been pretty awful -- and the movie hasn't even opened yet -- but clearly, Relativity Media like what they have on their hands here, because according to Brosnan, the studio is already moving ahead with a sequel.

'Godzilla 2' Scheduled for June 2018

Godzilla
With Godzilla director Gareth Edwards committed to a Star Wars spinoff as well as a follow-up to his successful reboot for the scaly big green guy, we've been wondering how Legendary and Lucasfilm's plans would play out in terms of scheduling -- and when these two Edwards-helmed tentpoles might find their way to theaters.

'Bad Boys 3' Is Happening, Says Martin Lawrence

Bad Boys
Nearly 20 years after the first installment and more than a decade after the first sequel, it looks like the long-discussed Bad Boys 3 is finally grinding into gear -- at least if we can take franchise co-star Martin Lawrence at his word. During an appearance on Conan August 13, Lawrence was asked about the possibility of another Bad Boys sequel, and he didn't mince words.

'Power Rangers' Reboot Officially Slated for Summer 2016

MMPR
It doesn't have a cast or a director yet, but Lionsgate's upcoming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie has a date: July 22, 2016. Dubbed simply Power Rangers, the latest big-screen outing for Saban's apparently deathless franchise purports to "reimagine" the origin of the colorful team of heroes, described as "a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world."

'American Sniper' Scheduled for Christmas Debut

American Sniper
At this point, Clint Eastwood may not care one way or the other how his movies do, either critically or at the box office. But if he's smarting after the drubbing he took on both fronts with this year's Jersey Boys, he'll get an opportunity to soothe the sting pretty quickly:

Shannyn Sossamon Set to Star in 'Sinister' Sequel

Sinister
With the Sinister sequel slated to start next week, it's about time for Focus Features to start coughing up details regarding the storyline and who's going to star -- which they've just done, announcing that Shannyn Sossamon has signed on to do a whole bunch of screaming as the mother of 9-year-old twins who unwittingly moves her brood into (whoops!) "a rural house marked for death." Sossamon will be joined by James Ransone, who Sinister fans may remember from the first installment as a well-meaning police officer; he'll return to reprise his role.

'Aquaman' Nets a Pair of Writers

He Sucks
Why worry about whipping one screenplay into shape when you can worry about two? That's the question Warner Bros. seems like it's about to answer with Aquaman.

Review: 'Rich Hill' Is a Tough But Rewarding Climb

Rich Hill
Depending on your view of what's fair and how stardom is supposed to work, the crowdfunding model may not be the best way for projects like Zach Braff's Wish I Was Here or the Veronica Mars movie to bridge the gap between their creators' hearts and the audience's eyes. On the whole, though, it's a fairly exciting step forward for independent cinema, and documentaries like the gut-wrenching Rich Hill offer painfully compelling proof.
