Quentin Tarantino's 'Hateful Eight' Scheduled for Fall 2015

2:31 PM 9/3/2014 by Jeff Giles
For a movie that seemed in danger of being tossed on the scrap heap after writer/director Quentin Tarantino suffered a fit of pique induced by the script being leaked, The Hateful Eight has gone on to enjoy a pretty robust development cycle, from an all-star reading to the Tarantino fast track -- and now it's officially part of the Weinstein Company's slate for fall 2015.

Dax Shepard Takes Over 'CHiPS' Movie for Warner Bros.

2:20 PM 9/3/2014 by Jeff Giles
Many of us assumed that Warner Bros.' dreams of turning the '70s TV sensation CHiPS into a movie died along with their plans of casting Wilmer Valderrama as the blindingly toothed Frank "Ponch" Poncherello, but nope: the project is still very much alive, and Dax Shepard has now climbed aboard to write, direct, and star in it.

'Boondock Saints III: Legion' May Actually Be Happening

1:53 PM 9/3/2014 by Jeff Giles
Whether or not you're 100 percent on board with Troy Duffy as a filmmaker or a human being, it's hard not to hand it to the guy for the sheer persistence with which he's devoted himself to the Boondock Saints movies -- as well as the grassroots cult fanbase that's built itself up around the two chapters in the series over the last 15 years.

'How to Train Your Dragon 3' Bumped to 2017

Dragon 3
Successful animated franchises are worth their weight in gold -- but like gold, they're kind of heavy and rather expensive, so most studios aren't as quick to sign off on a sequel as they'd be with, say, a cheapo horror flick that makes a bundle of money. Case in point:

'Star Wars: Episode VII' Resumes Production

6:31 PM 8/28/2014 by Jeff Giles
Even before Harrison Ford accidentally shut down production on Star Wars: Episode VII by getting his leg crushed on the Millennium Falcon, speculation ran rampant regarding director J.J. Abrams' rumored reluctance to meet or agree to Disney's demands for a December 2015 release date. Once Ford was laid up for weeks, many wondered whether the studio might be forced to bump the highly anticipated follow-up to 1983's Return of the Jedi.

Joaquin Phoenix Reportedly in "Final Talks" for 'Doctor Strange'

Joaquin Phoenix
Hey, remember when Joaquin Phoenix fooled a bunch of people into thinking he was going to retire from acting to pursue a career in rap? Ha, ha, ha! If he'd followed that up by telling everyone he wanted to star in a movie about the Marvel Comics hero Doctor Strange, it would have seemed like another piece of insane performance art, but here we are in 2014, and Joaquin Phoenix starring in Marvel's Doctor Strange movie appears to be all but a done deal.

'Seventh Son' Debuts New Trailer, Still Seems Kind of Sad

Seventh Son
It's been bumped so many times that we'd honestly kind of forgotten it hadn't actually come out, but no -- Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore's The Seventh Son is still on the Universal schedule, where it's currently slated to come out on (long pause) February 6, 2015.

Blade Runner
You think you're busy? While you whine about your schedule, Ridley Scott runs circles around you, wrapping up work on his December Biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings while prepping for the Matt Damon-led sci-fi drama The Martian and guiding pre-production on sequels to Blade Runner and Prometheus.

'Amityville: The Awakening' Trailer May Make You Fear for Cinema

2:25 PM 8/26/2014 by Jeff Giles
Well, it's been about 10 years since we've had an Amityville Horror sequel/reboot/spinoff in theaters, so it looks like 2015 is the year for an allegedly fresh spin on the oft-told tale of well-meaning suburbanites who make the mistake of moving into a haunted house where a crazy person once slaughtered his entire family.

Marvel Mulling Black Panther, Captain Marvel Projects

Black Panther
Marvel's turned defying fan expectations into a multibillion-dollar industry, and at this point, any fanboys who seriously believe the studio cares about petitions and message boards is delusional. But just because Marvel's brain trust is confident enough to ignore or override comics lovers' wishes, that doesn't mean they aren't aware of them -- and in a couple of notable cases, they may even acquiesce at some point.
