James Cameron Taps Josh Friedman for 'Avatar 2' Screenplay

Looks like James Cameron is done writing the scripts for Avatar 2 and 3 and is ready to give what he has some polish. For that, he will turn to Josh Friedman, TheWrap has learned.

Friedman wrote the screenplays for Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds and Brian De Palma's The Black Dahlia, but has been working in TV recently on shows like The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Locke & Key, and The Finder.

Since Avatar 2 and 3 are filming back-to-back, it is assumed Friedman will be working with both screenplays.

Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana are expected back to reprise their roles, and Sigourney Weaver, despite what happened to her character in the first movie, may also return.

Filming for both movies is said to begin in early 2014 for a 2015 or 2016 release for the first sequel. From previous interviews, Avatar 2 will feature some underwater environments.

The fist movie is the highest grossing movie of all time with $2.78 billion at the global box office, and unless Cameron can blow our socks off again, it is unlike the sequels can surpass the first movie at the box office.
