"Ip Man 4": Donnie Yen says "very likely"

Donnie Yen did a q/a with IMDB on Twitter to promote the January 22nd release of “Ip Man 3” in the U.S.
When asked by fans about the likelihood of an “Ip Man 4,” he responded encouragingly with “very likely.” I’ve read a similar sentiment from the producer as well.
I think it really depends on how it does in China, where its original release date of December 24, 2015 has been pushed forward to March 4, 2016. Because of rampant video piracy in that country, the two month delay might hurt it at the box office.
“Ip Man 3” has done spectacular business elsewhere in Asia though, breaking records in Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore. In that entire region, it has already taken in a combined $25M. This is probably why Yen is optimistic about a fourth film.
However, with a budget of $36M, it still needs to do well in China in order for the film to make a profit.
Yen will probably have a definitive answer about another installment after “Ip Man 3” opens in China in a few months.
If it does happen, the story will likely focus on the relationship between Ip Man and his student Bruce Lee. That’s what we were supposed to get for “Ip Man 3,” but the producers couldn’t get the rights from the Lee estate in time.
