I was wondering how the Aaron Eckhart-starrer “I, Frankenstein” would do at the box office in comparison to the “Underworld” films because they’re from the same producers.

According to Nikki Finke, the initial numbers aren’t looking good for “I, Frankenstein.”

For Friday, the initial estimate is $4M-$5M, which will result in a weekend gross around $11M-$14M.

Because genre films tend to be front-loaded, it’ll probably end up at the lower end of the estimate.

This is far behind the “Underworld” films, each of which opened in the $21M-$25M range.

Made for a reported $68M, “I, Frankenstein” needs to open in the $25M-$30M range to break even.

UPDATE: Variety has the Friday figure at $3M and weekend at $10M. Yikes! Eckhart looks like he put a lot of work into his abs. That's too bad. The audience didn't go for an ass-kicking Abe Lincoln, and it doesn't look like they're going for an ass-kicking Frankenstein either. But they did go for an ass-kicking Hansel and Gretel.

2nd UPDATE: The news gets worst -- $2.8M for Friday, $7.8M for the weekend. It's officially a bomb.
