Hugo Weaving Says Red Skull May Show Up in 'The Avengers 2', But Probably Won't Be in 'Captain America 2' or '3'

Red Skull

According to Hugo Weaving, there's a possibility that Red Skull, Captain America's arch nemesis, may show up in The Avengers 2, but as far as he knows, the character won't appear in Captain America 2 or 3 because Marvel's tendency is to not bring back the villain for the sequels. And he wants it to stay that way.

“[I]t’s not something I would want to do again. I’m glad I did it. I did sign up for a number of pictures and I suppose, contractually, I would be obliged to, if they forced me to, but they wouldn’t want to force someone to do it, if they didn’t want to. I think I’ve done my dash with that sort of film. It was good to do it and try it out, but to be honest, it’s not the sort of film I seek out and really am excited by,” Weaving told Collider.

Weaving's preferences aside, one does not get to be the arch nemesis by showing up once and not be heard from again, so expect Weaving to reprise the character again for one of the Captain America sequels, if not in the next two, then for the ones following those.

Captain America 2, titled Captain America: The Winter Soldier, will start production in March 2013 for an April 4, 2014 release. The movie is going to be directed by You, Me and Dupree's Joe and Anthony Russo.

Chris Evans will return to reprise his role as Captain America, with Anthony Mackie joining him as the Falcon. Sebastian Stan is returning to play Bucky aka The Winter Soldier, and Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow is rumored to make an appearance in the movie as well.
