Hong Kong Entertainer Andy Lau May Play Tony Stark's Friend in 'Iron Man 3'
According to Neonpunch (via Twitch), Hong Kong entertainer Andy Lau is in talks to play a Chinese scientist and a close friend of Tony Stark in Iron Man 3. It is reported that his character will use China's technology to aid Iron Man in his battle with the new threat facing the world.
Disney announced last week that the company is teaming up with Chinese production company DMG Entertainment for Iron Man 3 and that some of the scenes will be filmed in China, so it makes sense some of the cast will come from that region.
I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the more popular celebrities in China, Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea make a cameo or two in the movie.
In case you missed the news yesterday, Jessica Chastain is going to play a sexy scientist that is as smart as Tony Stark, according Deadline's report. The role was originally offered to her, but due to scheduling conflicts, she had to pass. With that obstacle out of the way, the role is hers once again.
The report didn't say which character she will play, but it is possible she may play the co-creator of the virus, Maya Hansen.
The other co-creator of the virus, Aldrich Killian, will be played by Guy Pearce. In the comics, Killian sold his co-invention to terrorists who used it to wreck havoc and only Iron Man can put a stop to them.
Ben Kingsley has also been cast as one of the movie's villain. His role is being kept a secret so we don't know how big a role he will play in the movie. It is possible his character is the master mind behind all the calamities, or he may be some minor character in the grand scheme of things.
Iron Man 3 will start shooting in May, with the scenes in China to be filmed in the summer. The movie is directed by Shane Black and stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, and Scarlett Johansson in addition to those mentioned above.
Iron Man 3 is scheduled for release on May 3, 2013.
