Harrison Ford to Miss Eight Weeks of 'Star Wars' Filming

Harrison Ford

While the rest of us are doing backflips over J.J. Abrams' decision to heavily incorporate real sets rather than relying totally on CGI for Star Wars: Episode VII, Harrison Ford is laid up in a hospital bed, reportedly because the Millennium Falcon has a really heavy door.

The Hollywood Reporter's sources say that Ford, who broke his ankle on the set last week, is expected to miss eight weeks of filming while he recovers. As we noted in our original report, this isn't the first time an actor has been sidelined during production, and with a big-budget spectacular like Star Wars, there's always plenty to do in terms of shooting ahead or around an injury.

In other words, although eight weeks is a long time, sources say Episode VII is still expected to make its December 18, 2015 release date -- so you Star Wars fans (and/or tie-in vendors) can breathe a sigh of relief. We should still be going back to a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away next Christmas. In the meantime, here's hoping they give Harrison the good painkillers, because getting your ankle broken by a spaceship door sounds awful.
