Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth Bard Up for 'Romeo and Juliet' Trailer

It's been adapted for the big screen countless times, but we haven't seen a new take on Romeo and Juliet since Baz Luhrmann offered up his revisionist version in 1996 -- and given that Luhrmann is covering the oft-adapted The Great Gatsby this year, it's sort of poetic that we're also getting a new spin on Shakespeare's famous play.
Actually, as the title makes clear, this is Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet -- so even if Carlo Carlei is directing from a script by Julian Fellowes, the clear intent is to take things back to basics and present a relatively straightforward adaptation of the play (new Zola Jesus song in the trailer notwithstanding). It's kind of a curious decision on the studio's part -- haven't we been watching variations on this story for centuries? -- but with Hailee Steinfeld as our Juliet (and Douglas Cooper as her Romeo), perhaps audiences will be up for yet another round of star-crossed lovers.
Romeo and Juliet is still waiting for a U.S. release; it's currently scheduled to bow in the U.K. on July 26.
