Guy Ritchie Circling Warner Bros' King Arthur Tale

Guy Ritchie

Warner Bros. was close to putting Arthur and Lancelot into production nearly two years ago, but the studio decided to shelf it due to the large sticker price. Now, the studio is planning a new take on the Arthurian legend which will span six films.

Deadline is hearing the studio is looking at Guy Ritchie to direct this untitled project. Ritchie was developing an Excalibur remake at Warner Bros. a couple years ago, but he dropped it when it was apparent that Arthur and Lancelot was gaining steam at the studio. With this new project, it looks like Ritchie may get another crack at Arthur.

The script for the new movie is written by Joby Harold, and he is producing with Akiva Goldsman, Tory Tunnell, and Lionel Wigram.

Ritchie is currently filming the big screen adaptation of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and may move on to Sherlock Holmes 3 after that's done.

Six movies may be an overkill, and we won't fault the studio for seeking out its next Harry Potter, but is Ritchie the right person to pull this off?
