'Grumpy Cat' Set to Make Inevitable Journey from Meme to Film

Grumpy Cat

You've seen her on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and...oh, Pinterest or whatever, and now you can (sigh) look forward to seeing her on the big screen. Ladies and gentlemen, it's the Hollywood you deserve: Grumpy Cat the meme is becoming Grumpy Cat the movie.

The feline with the perpetually pissed-off expression, whose photos have provided grist for many a humorously captioned image, has had her (sigh) film rights optioned by producers Todd Garner and Sean Robins, whose Broken Road Productions previously brought comedy lovers such modern classics as (deep sigh) Zookeeper, Jack And Jill, and Here Comes The Boom.

"This started off as a picture of a cat, but rare is an image that evokes that much comedy," enthused Garner. "You read all of the memes and the comments, and one is funnier than the next. We think we can build a big family comedy around this character."

No word yet on a director, screenwriter, or cast for Grumpy Cat, but we're sure calls have already gone out to Adam Sandler and Kevin James. Perhaps Bill "Garfield" Murray can be persuaded to provide Grumpy's voice? We'll keep you posted.
