Well, he doesn't come out and say "Kneel before Zod." But General Zod (Michael Shannon) still has a pretty strongly worded message to deliver in this new promotional video for Warner Bros.' Man of Steel.
Shrouded in a haze of digital gibberish that suggests Kryptonian video broadcasting technology didn't have much of a chance to evolve before the planet exploded, Zod keeps things short here, beginning with a simple "My name is General Zod" before sending things in an ominous direction.
"For some time your world has sheltered one of my citizens," continues the message. "I request that you return this individual to my custody. To Kal-El, I say this. Surrender within 24 hours."
Pretty harsh words, but as Shannon made clear to Entertainment Weekly during an interview for the magazine's Summer Movie Preview, Zod "actually has some affection for anybody who's a Kryptonian, including Superman. He doesn't really have any malignant feelings towards him; he just wants him to be patriotic."
Interesting subtext, even if you can't really pick up on any of it in this clip. Take a look below and file it away for June 14, when Man of Steel soars onto traditional and 3D screens.
