Garrett Hedlund Confirms He'll Be Back for 'Tron 3'

Tron Legacy

Does this mean it's actually getting filmed anytime soon? Of course not.

Anyone who's followed the Marvel movies knows Hollywood studios have gotten pretty adept at locking up talent for sequels, even when said sequels are purely hypothetical, so the recent news that Disney has hired Jesse Wigutow to work up a new script for a Tron: Legacy follow-up should have already clued most film fans into the extreme possibility that they already have their cast secured.

But just in case you were worried that Tron: Legacy's male lead, Garrett Hedlund, wouldn't be back for the next installment, he's here to soothe your fears with a few quotes from a recent junket for On the Road. While he neglected to share any storyline details -- after all, there probably really aren't any at this point -- he did mention, "Disney’s very excited. That’s about that. You know, yeah, I’m very excited, Disney’s very excited."

This ventures perilously close to non-news (as the A.V. Club's headline put it, "Garrett Hedlund confirms he will be in next Tron movie, instead of doing whatever else it is that Garrett Hedlund does"), but since Tron holds such a hallowed place in our bruised cineaste hearts, we knew we'd be remiss if we neglected to report it.

To recap: Tron 3 (or whatever it's being called behind closed doors at Disney) still has no official release date, director, synopsis, or anything else we can think of, but it does have a screenwriter and Garrett Hedlund. Plan accordingly.
