Frank Grillo Calls 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' "An Origin Film"

Crossbones

The lion's share of the attention surrounding Captain America: The Winter Soldier has centered on directors Joe and Anthony Russo's stated intention to spin the Cap sequel as a gritty '70s political thriller, as well as the first appearance of Sebastian Stan as the titular antagonist. But there's a whole lot of other stuff going on in the movie, including Anthony Mackie's debut as Cap's buddy the Falcon -- and Frank Grillo popping up as his persistent comics adversary Crossbow.

Grillo spilled a few beans during a recent interview with Crave, referring to Winter Soldier as "an origin film" and hinting that Marvel has bigger plans for his character than a few scenes in this particular sequel. Although he was loath to provide specifics, he did allow that filmgoers will "meet people who are going to be around for a while" -- a statement that could allude to his character as well as the Winter Soldier, the Falcon, Robert Redford's S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, or other characters we aren't even aware of yet. Marvel's sneaky like that.

Nodding "They do, actually," to Crave's query regarding whether Marvel has more in store for Crossbones, he quickly scotched any thoughts of the character popping up on the studio's ratings-starved ABC series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. "At this point in my career, it's something that I'm not really interested in doing," he shrugged. "Not that I don't want to do it, but it doesn't get me going anymore to do something like that."
