Fox Developing 'Magic: The Gathering' for the Big Screen

Magic: The Gathering

Magic: The Gathering, Hasbro's fantasy card game, is coming to the big screen courtesy of Fox, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The studio hopes the property could turn into the next big fantasy franchise.

The game is played with the player assuming the role of a planeswalker and dueling other planewalkers by drawing cards from their own decks. The cards could be used to summon creatures or cast spells. The game is won when a player reduces the other players' hit points to zero.

Obviously, Fox is going to do the smart thing and not make the movies about people playing card games because that would not be a wise use of the brand. It would be surprising if there are going to be any cards in the movies at all.

Simon Kinberg is producing and will be overseeing the development of the potential franchise for Fox.

Besides this, Kinberg is also overseeing the development Fox's superhero franchises such as X-Men and Fantastic Four.
